In a letter dated June 6, 1977 my grandmother, Mildred Clarinda (Anderson) Van Valkinburgh talks of going to the coast (Washington State) to visit her cousin Bill.
She tells me he had, just 2 days before she got there, married a "sweet old lady", as grandma called her, who was past 80 years old and had undergone two brain surgeries. One a year before the marriage and another the week before the marriage.
I have decided that Joe Stevens (Bill's father) must be the brother of Mildred's mother, Caroline M. Stevens. I have an old glass plate photograph that Mildred gave me in 1974 saying that Joe Stevens was my great uncle, but she calls his children her cousins, which would make Joe my great, great uncle.
Bill was still alive in 1977, as per the letter, but I have not heard of his death date. He had to be in his eighties at that time.
