Notes:
Phillip immigrated from Russia to Ellis Island, New, York at age 1 according to a request for citizenship documents, but age 2 according to ships records. He married Anna Marie Lowenberger in Irvine, Alberta, British Columbia. They then moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, where possibly three of their four children, Delores, Arthur, Viola and Ottilia were born. Arthur's social security application lists birthplace of Irvine.

Burial place is now called Coeur D' Alene Memorial Cemetery, Hayden Lake, Idaho.

I have a copy of a "Merit Award" certifying that Philip Bitterman "is presented with this Merit Award by the Walter Butler Company in recognition of the skillful, intelligent and prompt performance of his duties." issued this 6th day of October, 1942. Signed by Robert Butler and his secretary in illegible writing.

    A copy of Philip and Eva's marriage certificate says it was registered at Medicine Hat, but it would appear that they were living and married in Irvine. The right and left sides of the certificate are cut off, so I will have to fill in later when I get the rest.

    A letter from the Department of Social Security to Philip Bitterman dated Dec. 14, 1937 states in part:
    ...."Father proved up on a homestead in South Dakota. Philip was 1 year old when they migrated from Russia". The records further show that Philip Bitterman voted in the elections in the Nisland precinct, Butte Co., South Dakota. It appears from our records that the homestead entry was made and patent secured after 1922. .....
